A revised strategy has been embarked upon to progress JaC. The ACCESS-CM2 version of CABLE has been ported to JULES 5.3. In general changes are made on two fronts to allow CABLE to be run as the Land-Surface Model [LSM]. These are changes to the rose-cylc suite and changes to the source code. In the first instance we are concerned with running CABLE through JULES standalone [SA] at the single flux site of Point Loobos.
We want to run CABLE as the LSM in JULES.
We want a run-time optional switch to select either CABLE or JULES.
Actually this isn't completely achievable right now as CABLE and JULES have different PFT and soil layer configurations, and in order to be completely switchable not only would both versions of ancillary files and namelists need to be available at the suite level, but also all of the checking mechanisms would have to be modified to allow both configurations to be present.
In the first instance then we want to at least provide a CABLE specific suite. We want to use the JULES I/O to read the ancillary files and namelists, and also the forcing, and then call CABLE to evaluate Land-Surface processes. The output going back through JULES I/O.
In this sense whether we run CABLE using CABLE offline (CABLE-CABLE) or through JULES (CABLE-JULES) we should get the same result.
It is almost expected that, in the first instance, this result will be ....erroneous.
