We are hesitant in detailing a strategy as such a plan seems to be contingent on:

  • the status of Martin’s efforts to separate the land/sea calls
  • Are we then talking about meeting the March-May deadline for JULES-5.8?
  • we are concerned that such an implementation would fall apart following the next (closed, technical) release of JULES 6.0.

Valid and doable approaches were discussed, however they all seem to hinge on the above issues.

In summary, it is a complex task to integrate CABLE into JULES, it is a complicated task to develop a detailed plan (to completion) to do this, it is damned near impossible given the uncertainties in what we are even aiming at.

This beggars the question: Is it worth simply waiting for JULES-6.0 when in principle the "impossible" issue at least will be largely removed.

Richard Gilham was emailed re: progress of a plan for the technical release JULES-6.0.

A discussion of one proposal was neglected at the time (mostly because I forgot about it's relevance)

Action items:

  1. Is it worth merging with Martin's branch
  2. If we are not going to meet up with 5.8 - what issues can we see for post 6.0 integration
  3. Seek plan update from Richard and possibly re-evaluate
  4. Issue raised by: Will processor decomp change requirements on runtime allocated fields
  5. Merge with Danny's Ticket 940 *6. Review/comment Jhan's proposal - new issue
