Coupled model configurations (GEOS MOM6)

Santha Akella edited this page Dec 16, 2023 · 6 revisions

Following configurations are available when you set up an experiment.

Configuration number (name) Atmosphere (nx $\times$ ny) Atm (IM $\times$ JM) Ocean nx $\times$ ny (vertical resolution) Ocn (IM $\times$ JM)
1 (low) C12 (1 x 6) 12 x 72 72 x 36 (50) 3 x 2
2 (medium) C90 (5 x 36) 90 x 540 540 x 458 (50) 90 x 2
3 (high) C180 (30 x 36) 180 x 1080 1440 x 1080 (75) 36 x 30

Sample restarts:

For all the ⬆️ configurations, restarts can be found at: /discover/nobackup/sakella/restarts/GEOS_AOGCM-Nov2023:

├── test_high
├── test_low
└── test_mid

These contain restarts for the atmosphere, sea ice and ocean.

Note (1):

  • Atmospheric vertical resolution has to be chosen when setting up your experiment, default is 72.
  • Ocean vertical resolution defaults are listed ⬆️. Though they cannot be chosen while setting up experiment, they can be changed easily after the experiment has been set up.
  • Sea ice runs on the same tripole grid as the ocean model.

Note (2):

If the intention is to initialize ocean from climatology files (e.g., using those in /discover/nobackup/projects/gmao/bcs_shared/make_bcs_inputs) then for the first segment, in input.nml set:

input_filename = 'n'

and for subsequent segments (i.e. > 1) set:

input_filename = 'r'
