Get all kindles to right firmware version

Check the firmware version

If it is greater than 5.7, need to jailbreak by soldering onto the serial bus.

If 5.7.X or lower:

1. Check HW Serial number. HW Serial number should be start with: 90C6 which means it is KT2, BASIC
2. Reset Kindle. Home > Menu > Settings > Menu > Reset. WAIT. Set Language.
3. Copy update_KT2_5.6.0_initial.bin to the kindle via usb
4. eject. hold down power > restart. This will do a software update. It will take a long time. Just wait ~10 mins or more.
5. copy main-htmlviewer.tar.gz to the kindle. eject.
6. go home > search > type: ;installHtml - press return. it will restart.
7. copy Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.14.N_install.bin to the kindle. eject
8. Home > menu > Settings > Menu > Update your Kindle
9. copy update_kindle_5.8.11.bin to kindle
10. Home > menu > Settings > Menu > Update your Kindle

Install proper software

1. Copy KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 to kindle IN THE /documents folder
2. Copy /extensions and /mrpackages to the kindle
3. go into kual and run > helper > install mrpackages

Set up wifi

1. settings > wireless > do it

to ssh in

1. unplug
2. go to kual and enable usb over networking
3. add device in networking: Configure ipv4 manually, ip: 192.168.15.201 subnet: 255.255.255.0
4. ssh [email protected]
5. password: wario

Figure out how to wake from sleep
