Experience Obelisk

The Experience Obelisk is a device that lets you easily store and retrieve large amounts of XP. Every point of experience is converted into 20mB of Cognitium, which is then stored in the Obelisk's internal reservoir. This fluid can be transferred to external tanks or elsewhere using fluid pipes from most mods. Each Obelisk can store 100 kB of Cognitium — which translates to just over 1072 XP levels. The storage space of the Obelisk can be adjusted in the config file.

The Obelisk also has a passive XP-vacuum function which is active by default. The Obelisk will vacuum up all experience orbs in a set radius, adding them to its internal storage. This behavior can be adjusted in the settings page.

Modded Compatibility

Fluids from other mods tagged "forge:experience" that are whitelisted can also be piped into the Obelisk, upon which they will automatically be converted into Cognitium.

  • Do note that this is likely irreversible as the mod does not provide a way to convert Cognitium back to other fluids.

The following fluids are supported by default:

  • Fluid XP (Mob Grinding Utils)
  • Experience (CoFH Core / Thermal)
  • Essence (Industrial Foregoing)
  • Experience (Sophisticated Backpacks)
  • XP Juice (EnderIO)

You can modify this list in the config file.

GUI

Upon right-clicking the block, you are presented with the following 6 options to store or retrieve XP. Since minecraft XP does not work in a linear fashion, with each level being worth more the higher they get, all XP values are from the players' perspective. That is to say, if you had 30 levels and chose to store 10 in an empty obelisk, you would be left with 20 levels, but the Obelisk GUI would read 24 levels - since each individual level is worth more the higher you go.

The settings page contains options to modify the radius of the XP orb vacuum functionality, as well as an option for redstone sensitivity. If redstone is set to Enabled, the vacuum function will only activate when the Obelisk has a neighboring redstone signal. When set to Ignored, the vacuum function will be active all the time.

Known Issues

Setting the obelisk capacity above the default of 100 kB is not recommended. When the obelisk capacity is set above the default, you may encounter a bug where a small amount of XP is lost or duplicated when transferring large volumes of XP in or out. This is a consequence of MC-271084, and only applies to using the GUI (piping it around is fine).

Experience Fountain

The Experience Fountain is a device that dispenses experience orbs from its top surface. This device needs to be bound to a nearby Obelisk by means of a Staff of Attunement in order to function. The fountain will deduct experience from the bound obelisk as it does so. The Fountain has four modes of operation:

  • Slow (4 xp / second)
  • Moderate (40 xp / second)
  • Fast (400 xp / second)
  • Hyperspeed (4000 xp / second)

These modes can by cycled by right-clicking the fountain.

The Fountain is activated by a neighboring redstone signal. It is also activated by a player standing on it in the absence of a redstone signal.

Filling Experience Items

The Fountain has the additional function of filling container items with XP. Provided the bound obelisk has enough Cognitium, right-clicking the fountain with an empty bottle will give you Bottles o' Enchanting. This also works for vanilla buckets, and any modded item with a fluid-container function such as tanks.

Precision Dispeller

The Precision Dispeller is a specialized piece of machinery that allows you to selectively remove enchantments you don't want from an item, and remove curses for an XP cost of 30 base levels. It also returns slightly more XP than a vanilla grindstone.

The Precision Dispeller does not require binding to an Obelisk. When unbound, it will dispense any XP gained as XP orbs the same way as a vanilla grindstone, and draw XP from the player when removing curses.

However, should you want to, the Precision Dispeller can be bound to an Obelisk the same way as the Fountain. When bound, experience gained will be added to the Obelisk internal reservoir instead of being released as XP orbs. Likewise, the XP cost from curse removal will first be deducted from the Obelisk, and only deducted from the player if the amount of XP in the Obelisk is insufficient.

Molecular Metamorpher

The Molecular Metamorpher uses focused beams of Cognitium to infuse materials with experience, transforming them into different substances in the process. In order to function, it must be bound to a nearby Experience Obelisk by means of a Staff of Attunement.

The Molecular Metamorpher has three input slots on the left and one output slot on the right. When a valid recipe is detected, the Metamorpher will drain the requisite amount of XP from the bound Obelisk and initiate the recipe. If the recipe is aborted during processing, for instance by removing one of the ingredients from the input slots, the XP cost will be refunded (if there is space in the Obelisk).

Items can be transferred into the input slots through any of the four sides (north, south, east, west). Output items can be removed through the bottom face of the Metamorpher. The top face, where the emitter is, is not usable for item transport.

When bound, the Metamorpher will display the number of XP levels in the bound obelisk in the bottom right corner.

metamorpher gui

The Metamorpher comes with the ability to have its redstone sensitivity toggled on or off. When set to Enabled, the Metamorpher will only initiate recipes when a redstone signal is present. When set to Disabled, it will ignore redstone signals. Redstone signals have no effect on recipes that the Metamorpher is already processing.

Apart from ordinary recipes, the Metamorpher also allows you to change the item name formatting of any item. The item name color may be changed using a dye item and a nametag, while the item formatting may be changed using selected special items and a nametag (view recipes in JEI for more info). Do note that these recipes, unlike other Metamorpher recipes, are shaped. This is to say that the ingredients have to be in the correct slots.

Cognitive Material Blocks

Cognitive Alloy and Cognitive Crystal can be crafted into blocks for more compact storage. Aside from that, these blocks are also blast resistant, and can be used as beacon bases.

Accelerators

Accelerators launch all entities in the 1x1x1 space directly in front of them in the direction they are facing. Accelerators are very adept at launching experience orbs around. While they also work on other entities like items, mobs, or players, they deliver a smaller impulse. Accelerators can be rotated by right-clicking with a Staff of Attunement. The redstone sensitivity can also be toggled on and off by shift-right-clicking with a Staff of Attunement.

Linear Accelerators are very similar, and launch all entities in the 1x1x1 space above them in the direction they are pointing. They can be likewise rotated and have their redstone sensitivity toggled by using the Staff of Attunement. Unlike the Accelerators however, these can only be rotated within the horizontal plane.

When redstone sensitivity is set to "Enabled", the block will only activate when a redstone signal is applied; otherwise, it will remain inactive (blocks on the right of the image)

Whisperglass

Whisperglass is an incredibly slippery block, similar to blue ice (except even more slippery). It may be used in conjunction with the Accelerator blocks to transport experience orbs, items or mobs long distances.
