Fixes #5341
Restores the legacy behaviour that maintains item selections when paging or changing the filter. I think that the legacy behaviour was unintentional, and I feel that this is potentially dangerous, but I also don't want to introduce a regression for which there is no real workaround. This should be revisited in future.
