"Spendet für Internetcafés & Computerkurse für Geflüchtete!

Berlin - Die Kampagne "Support Refugees Emancipation" [0] ruft dazu auf, den seit 2001 in Deutschland existierenden Refugees Emancipation e. V. [1] dabei zu unterstützen, seine bisherige erfolgreiche Arbeit bei der Ausstattung von Flüchtlingsheimen mit Internetcafés fortzusetzen und weiter auszubauen. Die Spenden sollen für Betriebskosten bestehender Cafés, Bürokosten des Vereins in Potsdam, Reparaturen von Rechnern und Netzwerkhardware, sowie für Fahrtkosten von Lehrkräften und Admins verwendet werden.

Refugees Emancipation ist eine Initiative von Geflüchteten für Geflüchtete, die sich in Zusammenarbeit mit UnterstützerInnen dafür einsetzt, Menschen in ihren hier bezogenen Unterkünften Internetzugang zu ermöglichen. Der Verein setzt sich seit bald fünfzehn Jahren für Internetcafés in Geflüchtetenunterkünften ein und konnte bereits mehrere (vll. besser die genau Zahl + Links?) Heime versorgen. "Leider ist in einer Großzahl der Unterkünfte in Deutschland heute kein Internet verfügbar, geschweige denn die nötige Ausstattung für Geflüchtete ohne eigene Endgeräte. Aufgrund der aktuellen politischen Situation wächst der Bedarf an einfachster Kommunikationsinfrastruktur täglich." sagt Daniel Krüger, Sprecher des UnterstützerInnenkreis.

Wichtiger Teil des Konzepts ist dabei, die selbstorganisierte Internetcafés als einen Begegnungsraum, einen Ort der Kommunikation und des Informationsaustausches zu etablieren, um die Menschen aus der Isolation zu holen und miteinander sowie mit der Gesellschaft ins Gespräch zu bringen. Der Internetzugang ist essentiell, um Kontakt zu Angehörigen aufzunehmen, auf Informationen aus ihrer Heimat zuzugreifen, Übersetzungsdienste zu nutzen, sich über die neue Stadt, die eigenen Rechte und Möglichkeiten zu informieren. Darüber hinaus werden den aus ihrer Heimat Vertriebenen Grundkenntnisse im Umgang mit Computern vermittelt, damit sie sich letztlich eine eigene Stimme verschaffen können – auch um wiederum anderen zu helfen.

Neben den Gründungsmitgliedern der Kampagne, dem Chaos Computer Club e. V. [2], Freifunk Berlin [3] und dem Förderverein Freie Netzwerke e. V. [4] konnten weitere Organisationen und Unternehmen gewonnen werden. So hat beispielsweise das Linuxhotel [5] die ersten 10.000 EUR verdoppelt. Die Kampagne ruft nun weitere Spender auf, Teil des UnterstützerInnenkreis zu werden.

Berlin – The campaign "Support Refugees Emancipation" [0] appeals to the public to support the organization Refugees Emancipation e. V. [1], founded in 2001 in Germany, and to help it continue and develop its successful work in equipping refugee homes with internet cafés. The donations will be used to cover running costs of existing internet cafés and the Refugees Emancipation e. V.’s office in Potsdam, as well as to repair computers and network hardware and to pay for teaching staff’s and administrator’s travelling expenses.

Refugees Emancipation is an initiative from refugees for refugees. In cooperation with supporters, the initiative aims to enable internet access to refugees within their accommodations. For almost 15 years, the organization has been campaigning for, and has successfully provided many homes with internet cafés to the present day: “Unfortunately, internet or even the necessary facilities for refugees without the end devices is not available to a large number of refugee homes in Germany today. Given the momentary political situation, the demand for the simplest of communication infrastructure is growing every day”, says Daniel Krüger, speaker of the support circle.

An important part of the concept is the establishment of self-organized internet cafés as a place to meet people and to communicate and exchange information, bringing people out of their isolation to interact with each other and with society. Access to the internet is essential for refugees to be able to contact relatives and gain information from their home country. Access also enables them to use translation services and learn about the city they now live in; it informs them of their rights and opportunities. Displaced persons are taught basic skills in working with a computer in order to provide them with a voice of their own – to express themselves and to help others.
Apart from the campaigns’ founding members, the Chaos Computer Club e. V. [2], Freifunk Berlin [3] and the Förderverein Freie Netzwerke e. V. [4], other organizations and companies have readily offered their support. The Linuxhotel [5], for example, has doubled the first 10,000 EUR of funding. The campaign now appeals for further supporters to join their supporter’s circle.
