Open Orbit

An open source interactive spacecraft simulator.

Open Orbit is a free realistic and modular spacecraft simulator. The purpose is to let the user experience orbital space flight in a realistic manner.

The package that this README is part of is the source distribution, this README will give you pointers to where you find manuals, build instructions, documentation and so forth.

Background

A long time ago, the Open Orbit project was started. Aiming to be an Open Source multi-platform implementation (in pure C) of something like Orbiter. As thing go, life happened and progress halted at some point. In addition, Orbiter is now Open Source.

This is a re-imaging of the project in Swift instead of C. It utilize Apple frameworks where possible (e.g. SceneKit), to avoid having to re-implement the wheel. Which was one of the main problems with the C-version. E.g. no rigid body dynamics or scenegraph implementations needed here…

In addition, the project builds on two companion libraries:

swift-sim

An SMP inspired simulator framework in Swift.

swift-celmek

A reimplementation of the celmek library in Swift, but this package scope is larger than celmek library in C.
