Fonts handling U and V

Kensuke Sano edited this page Oct 6, 2020 · 2 revisions

Some fonts have retro-style U/V handling functions in OpenType features, often along with Latin language tag. This project has had Lua scripts append features to handle it automatically since v0.8.1.0; prior to that, it used EB Garamond with its built-in handling.

Usage

  • Uppercase & smallcaps: V;
  • Lowercase:
    • Initial: v;
    • Medial & finial: u.

Current status of old style fonts

More info will be welcome!

  • Duffner's EB Garamond has it via both Latin tag & stylistic set, which used to be utilised, but its replacements overwrite smallcaps & alike;
  • Duffner & Pardo's EB Garamond 12, having re-organised Duffner's features, doesn't have it fully functional: it replaces all lowercase u with v;
  • Miller's Garamond Libre has it functional via Latin tag, but it wholly nullifies smallcaps & alike;
  • Libertinus by Khaled Hosny & co. seems to have no such functions.
