Black Game Devs Operating Principles

Purpose

Highlight Black game developers from around the world and showcase their work in an accessible format.

Expected outcome

An increased awareness of (and financial support for) Black game developers who are not regularly in the spotlight.

Target audience

This website is for...

  • Black game developers looking to find collaborators
  • Anyone who wants to hire a Black game developer
  • Conference organizers looking for speakers
  • Gaming fans who want to buy games from Black creators

This website is not for...

Anyone or anything that requires Black game developers to expend energy to be successful, including:

  • Companies looking to post jobs (this puts the burden on Black creators)
  • Advertisers (this doesn't drive attention to Black creators)
  • Non-Black folks who are unwilling to do the work (this takes the attention away from Black creators)

How this affects future features

When reviewing a potential enhancement, consider the following:

  • Will this help us fulfill the site's purpose?
  • Will this feature contribute positively to the site's expected outcome?
  • Will this feature primarily help Black game developers, or will it primarily contribute to something or someone else?

If this feature will not primarily help Black game developers, it does not belong on the site.
