FAQ

Q: How can i wire HD air unit to ULTRA?

A: HD system is mere serial device. So you wire tx to fc rx and rx to fc tx. You can use serial ports 1, 3, 4, 6 for that. Its HIGHLY recommended to power HD vtx from LIPO PADS ON ESC via BEC.

Q: Can i select presets from OSD?

A: Yes. On PIDS page of osd hold SELECT for 2 seconds.

Q: What ESC motor layout Ultra supports?

A: Ultra supports standard kiss esc motor layout, and Betaflight/BLHeli32 motor layout. If you have BLHeli32 ESC, please use motor layouts prefixed with BF. Ultra will remap motors right way for you. If not sure, consider using Motor Wizard, which will configure your esc type/orientation/motor rotation automatically for you.

Q: What GUI does kiss ultra use?

A: We have our own Web and Standalone GUI's Kiss Ultra GUI

Q: I am using Foxeer Reaper VTX, but it seems doesn't produce 2.5w output and image is noisy

A: Check VTX FAQ for solutions: Foxeer Reaper VTX

Q: How to use BLHELI esc in B52 FW and later?

A: Connect your telemetry wire! On advanced configuration: Set serial 5 to ESC telemetry/One wire. Set voltage source and current source to FC Sensor. Thats it! You have voltage and current. Don't forget to calibrate your current sensor.

Q: Which ESC can i use with ULTRA?

A: Pretty much any recent ESC will work. For maximum performance, we recommend ESC with support of DShot2400. Voltara 70A, Kiss ESC, Any BlHELI32 esc on F0, F3 and F4 chips (that marked DShot1200 max) will work just fine. Fettec works too but using OneWire is NOT recommended. All mentioned above ESCs support ESC passthrough on ultra for ease of configuration. ESC also (partially) can be configured from the GUI or OSD. Voltara 70A is FULLY integrated with Ultra FC and designed to be plug and play with it with provided 8-8 cable. You can change its configuration via OSD and flash it with Ultra GUI.

Q: What are recommended BLHeli32 settings for ULTRA?

A: For 5 inch quads - Timing 23. 48khz locked.

Q: Will i see Current and mAH readings from BLHeli32 ESC?

A: Yes, but you need to connect CUR wire to dedicated pad on Ultra V2 or CC pad on Ultra V1. More info

Q: Do i need to use 'gummies' to mount ULTRA?

A: As any other Kiss flight controller, ULTRA doesn't need soft mounting. The best way to mount it is ImpulseRC rubber standoffs. We do not consider it soft mount because well, they don't filter anything and may just relief stress on ULTRA when you crash. It is recommended to mount ESC soft! And yes, IRC standoffs ARE different then Matek ones. For some people it makes difference.

Q: What OSD is supported on ULTRA?

A: ULTRA comes with following OSDs.

  • Analog (full graphical osd with transparency)
  • MSP OSD
  • HD0 Canvas
  • DJI WTF Canvas
  • DJI O3 Normal
  • DJI O3 HD
  • Walksnail Avatar

All digital OSDs are different, and we try to use as much features as they provide. OSD Mirror (OSD tab in the GUI) shows you EXACT copy of the OSD you will see in your googles.

Q: Can i power my super loud beeper with lipo battery from ULTRA?

A: On ULTRA v2 you certainly can. On ULTRA v1 - big no. It will fry 5v bec in certain conditions.

Q: Can i power FPV system (VTX and CAM) from ULTRA?

A: On ULTRA v2 you certainly can. On ULTRA v1 - big no. It will fry 5v bec in certain conditions.

Q: How do i setup my radio for ULTRA?

A: Radio MUST be configured with TAER channel order. Trim your channels ON the radio till you see 1500 in the data output page of the GUI. It is recommended to have separate model on the radio for Ultra (or any other KISS FC). The reciever must be set to "No pulses" or "No signal" when failsafe happens. You may consider adding some Deadband on the GUI.

From version B51 you can also set your stick center value, or even auto calibrate RPY channels on data output page. This is mostly for radios without trimming capabilities like DJI.

From version B60 it is possible to select your channel order TAER or AETR.

Q: Do i need to backup ULTRA configuration before firmware update?

A: You don't. ULTRA never looses its configuration. You certainly can of course. Keep in mind, that OSD configuration can be backed up from OSD page of the GUI separately from FC configuration. Its made for people who want to share same OSD config on multiple quads.

Q: Does ULTRA have RTH?

A: Yes, it does. You just need GPS unit and thats pretty much it. Default configuration is OK for 99% cases. You also need to calibrate accelerometer and assign RTH switch on AUX channel. You also can change Altitude source to BARO. That will allow more precise altitude tracking with less available GPS satellites. If you feel comfortable with RTH, you can set lower maximum throttle to say 1700 or 1650. That will make RTH tad sluggish but will be easier for your LIPOs. Default return altitude (0) is +50 meters ABOVE maximum flown altitude.

Q: How can i enter ULTRA OSD?

A: Just hold yaw left for 3 seconds. This will work on any hd canvas osd (HD0, Avatar, DJI WTF, DJI O3) and analog. It will NOT work on DJI MSP OSD.

Q: How can i change something in ULTRA OSD?

A: Do 'SELECT' action. Its right stick moved to ANY corner (diagonally). More Info

Q: What is Deadband?

A: ULTRA does minimum filtering on RC signal. In most cases, gimbals aren't ideal and their values jitter. You can see it on data output page of the GUI or Receiver test tool of OSD. Deadband makes FC ignore that jitter around center. Its recommended to set it to 5-10 on roll and pitch. To avoid undesired yawing during throttle stick movement it is recommended to set yaw deadband to even higher value around 10-20.

Q: What is Soft Arm?

A: Soft arm disables pid controller between arming and moving throttle above 5%. It sounds nicer on the HD footage, and in certain way u can use it for "i like to check my props with idle up" scenario. As any other time, armed quad is DANGEROUS! So treat it with respect and caution.

Q: What is Throttle Scaling

A: OG Kiss firmware never used RC throttle range between MinCommand and MinThrottle. Its about 7% of throttle resolution. Enabling Throttle Scaling puts that throttle range back to good use.

Q: My analog OSD is jumping all over the screen! What to do?

A: Any analog OSD relies on the sync pulses from the camera to align OSD with video. All cameras have quite different level of the sync, and to dial it in "just right" you need to enter right value of Sync Level in Ultra setup menu. More Info

Q: Can I put ULTRA to factory defaults?

A: Sure you can. Since version 2.0.1-B49 you can go to FC Flasher tab of the GUI, and click on Factory Reset button. ULTRA internal storage WILL be formatted. Just follow the wizard pages.

Q: Does ULTRA have easter eggs?

A: Yeap... Go to main menu on analog osd, do throttle up and down 6 times fast. And you will see one :)

Q: Does ULTRA have flight statistics?

A: Yeap... Go to main menu after your flight, and you will see statistics per flight.

Q: How do i turn on AirMode?

A: AirMode? There is NO AirMode on Ultra. PID controller is active when your Throttle value greater than MinCommand. So, you can think its always on when you have MinCommand set to 1000 (default) :)
