If you're new to the Netherlands, shopping for basic household items can be a challenge when you can't recognize store names. This page is dedicated to helping you find what you need.

Dutch equivalents to American big brand stores:

• Hema, Blokker = Target
• Dirk and Bas = Grocery Outlet
• Xenos, Zeeman = Dollar-store quality stuff. Good for cheap party supplies and some basic household items.
• Bijenkorf = Nordstrom's
• V&D = Macy's
• Kruidvat, Etos = Rite Aid
• Albert Heijn = Safeway, Ralph's
• Marks & Spencer (on Kalverstraat) = Trader Joe's, but not as much produce.
• Marqt, Biomarkt, Ekoplaza = Whole Foods
• Gamma, Praxis = Home Depot
• Douglas = Sephora
