Start each section on a new page in PDF

For LaTeX PDF, how can I add a page break before each \section{} globally?

I have tried \newcommand{\sectionbreak}{\clearpage}, but this does not take effect.

I have also tried

% Add a new page before each section
\let\oldsection\section
\renewcommand{\section}[1]{\clearpage\oldsection{#1}}

but this will automatically adds an empty section at the beginning with the heading "*".

Could you provide some hint how can I set this? Should I set in the preamble, or there is a configuration option for this?
