Prerequisites

  • I verified that this is not a filter list issue. Report any issues with filter lists or broken website functionality in the uAssets issue tracker.
  • This is NOT a YouTube, Facebook or Twitch report. These sites MUST be reported by clicking their respective links.
  • This is not a support issue or a question. For support, questions, or help, visit /r/uBlockOrigin.
  • I performed a cursory search of the issue tracker to avoid opening a duplicate issue.
  • The issue is not present after disabling uBO in the browser.
  • I checked the documentation to understand that the issue I am reporting is not normal behavior.

I tried to reproduce the issue when...

  • uBO is the only extension.
  • uBO uses default lists and settings.
  • using a new, unmodified browser profile.

Description

I opened Chrome, restored Previous Session, popup "Previous Session" button in right upper corner of the display (not address, et al.) startled me! As I've been fighting w/google about 'restoring previous session' since July 17, 2024. With the usual 'microsoft-esque' excuses, so I clicked on the button... Low & Behold, Viola! Great day in the morning, so selecting the the 3 dots, open what's new and SNAP! "... Blocked by an Extension"!

A specific URL where the issue occurs.

chrome://whats-new/, NOTE: chrome isn't showing full URI/URL.

Steps to Reproduce

Login to chrome (having a previous session), a popup upper right of the pages display (Restore Previous Session), select the button. See...

uBO uses default lists and settings.

You are not using default settings, the red badge on uBO's toolbar icon means you are using advanced-user settings and you are blocking 3rd-party frames -- this is what is causing your issue. Best is that you reset uBO to default and avoid opting-in to advanced-user features.

If you are enabling advanced user settings, you are expected to read the documentation and understand how to unbreak when your advanced configurations break the websites (in this case you are using dynamic rules to block 3rd party frames so you need to read the documentation to know how to unblock them)

Your original question is

To view the 'What's New" in Chrome!

That's what we are pointing out: you are blocking 3rd party frames. In order to unblock it, read the document to know how to do it. I won't participate more.

Thanks, but where's the answer to my question?!

This is a issue tracker, not a forum to ask questions. In any case, uBO blocks known reported malware through filter lists, one of which is enabled by default. Being "3rd-party` is not synonymous of "malicious 'ware'", and whoever decides to blanket block all 3rd parties will have the burden to sort out which ones should be unblocked.

If you feel there is more to discuss about this, please do so on a forum, here is an issue tracker to report uBO's issue, and your issue is invalid because it's self-inflicted, uBO did what you told it to do.

Also sidenote unrelated to your issue: using another content blocker long with uBO leads to worse results than using uBO alone, see https://x.com/gorhill/status/1033706103782170625.
