Closing "crop image" window closes "insert media" window as well

I want to insert a cropped image into a post, but I am unable to as closing the "crop image" window closes the "insert media" window at the same time.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a post / page / whatever for editing
2. Click "insert media" and select an image
3. Click "crop image" and select the desired cropping
4. Exit the "crop image" window by clicking either the grey area or the X.

Desired result: the "crop image" window closes, leaving the "insert media" window open so I can then insert it into my content.

Actual result: both the "crop image" window and the "insert media" window close, and the cropped image is gone.
