vue-chat-scroll scrolls to bottom by itself when I scroll up manually

I'm using vue-chat-scroll in a Vuetify v-list. The v-list contains the messages of the chat as a v-list-item and each has a "reply" button.
When I scroll up and attempt to click the button on an older chat message the chat simply scrolls itself to the bottom automatically without actually registering the button click. Sometimes it scrolls itself to the bottom when I scroll up just a few messages without clicking anything.

No new chat is received so any idea what might cause this to scroll to the bottom by itself?
