Logging (Command and Audit Logging)

The logging of the running Teiid is controlled through supplying the environment properties in the Custom Resource. For example

dv-customer.yaml
apiVersion: teiid.io/v1alpha1
kind: VirtualDatabase
metadata:
  name: dv-customer
spec:
  replicas: 1
  env: (1)
  - name: LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_COMMAND_LOG
    value: DEBUG
  build:
... omitted by brevity, see other examples
  1. Define a logging variable with its logging context and its desired logging level. In this example, we are enabling "org.teiid.COMMAND_LOG" logging context with DEBUG logging level.

To enable Audit logging use

- name: LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_AUDIT_LOG
  value: DEBUG

Log Contexts

The supported logging contexts for this platform are defined below. Enable them accordingly for your specific needs.

Table 1. Logging Contexts
Log Context Description

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_COMMAND_LOG

Use this in DEBUG level to see all the SQL commands that engine is executing, both from user as well as at the Translator Level

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_AUDIT_LOG

When data roles are being used to control access, this context at DEBUG level will show the who is accessing which resources.

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_COMMAND_LOG_SOURCE

This context at DEBUG level shows the native queries that are being executed by translator. This applies only to JDBC (relational) sources.

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_RUNTIME

Engine specifc logging

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_TXN_LOG

Transaction specific logging

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_CONNECTOR

All transaltor specific logging

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_PLANNER

Any engine query planning specific logging

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_PROCESSOR

Any engine execution of the query specific logging

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID_BUFFER_MGR

Engine uses a component called buffer manager to support the in flight data, typically related to any memory or disk issues.

LOGGING_LEVEL_ORG_TEIID

This covers all the above contexts as this is root context.

Log Levels

A log level is the verbosity of details that one is interested in. The following are the logging levels that are supported

  • ERROR

  • WARNING

  • INFO

  • DEBUG

  • TRACE

The above is defined in an order based on their verbosity in logging starting from only errors to all the events.
