Intermittent increased memory usage on CPython 3.12

For some reason, on python 3.12 the memory usage is sometimes 5 times higher. This is hard to reproduce as it happens sometimes, and sometimes it does not happen. It even goes wrong with the biocontainer, so it should not be any local stuff interfering.
The biocontainer for 3.11 works without issue.
