The Maven vesion checker currently shows BETA versions as being newer then the stable release.

E.g. in the screenshot below version 1.1.0-BETA-4 is seen as more recent than versin 1.1.0.

Proposed solution: tread any version that contains a hyphen as a pre-release version (as stated in SemVer point 9: https://semver.org/) and make sure that those versions are shown as older than the stable release.
