Java API: using the astar function as a query

Hi there. I'm looking to use the A* search functionality on an OrientDB server I'm creating within the execution process. I have the following code block, but I'm receiving a 'ParsingException' upon receipt of the first opening bracket. Admittedly, I'm new to SQL, but I'm following the documentation pretty stringently. Any ideas?

    String query = "SELECT astar(?,?,time,direction=OUT,customHeuristicFormula=EUCLIDEAN) FROM V";
    try(OResultSet set = db.query(query, getNode(from).getProperty("@rid"), getNode(to).getProperty("@rid"))) {
        while (set.hasNext()) {
            OResult row = set.next();
            for (String s : row.getPropertyNames())
                System.out.println(s);
            System.exit(-1);
        }
    }
