My current speculation is that the time it takes to wait a an intersection is overestimated. Gard from Norway has added an improvement which I'm trying out here: cdc844d

This seems to be due to the differing maxspeeds:

Google Maps also has the switching point between the two paths on Zeppelinstraße nearby, on the other side of Mühlstraße.
