I have a few udev/systemd files which I'd like to contribute back for lklfuse usb-device-hotplug-mount users, but don't think they belong in the main lkl kernel repo. Quite a few files already look out of place there, so I'd like to propose moving a few things to a separate e.g. lkl-progs repository. For easier building and testing against the kernel library we could still embed it as a git-submodule under e.g. lkl-progs/linux.

Any thoughts / objections? I realize it might make testing a little more complicated, but most CI tools should support cloning with --recurse-submodules enabled.

I'm neutral on this direction; either is fine if everybody meets a consensus.

the nice thing of splitting repositories is modularity, while a single-giant repo benefits with the visibility.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll put together a submodule based split repo so that others can play with it before putting anything in stone.
