My kids had a great suggestion - a dream in which you "pick your poison." Under the influence of poison, you must fight a monster in the dream. If you survive, you gain immunity to the poison and gain the ability to infect your enemies with the poison... perhaps the entire dungeon is flooded with poison gas when you choose.

I think I've come up with some good poison choices:

  1. Vision poison. Under the influence of this poison, you behave as if you were in the Hall of Mirrors, seeing false images of your enemies when you attack (but it would affect even blind or eyeless victims). Perhaps it could also penalize you during reactions too, so that you dodge or parry a false vision of the attacker. A mind roll determines resistance to the poison.
  2. Seizures poison. This poison gives you seizures, causing you to lose a turn and lose concentration sometimes. A spirit roll determines resistance.
  3. Weakness poison. I haven't quite worked out what this would do, but it would be rolled against the body score. Maybe an attack damage penalty which can be greater when the body score is lower. Or it could work like a weapon size mismatch.

Acquiring resistance to the poison might grant a permanent bonus to the relevant faculty - in fact, perhaps the poison would be permanent too, but the faculty would be so well boosted that it wouldn't matter much.

Or... what if anyone who was poisoned slowly increased the affected faculty, so they started out very weak but got steadily stronger? Hm.... I'm thinking that any time someone makes a failing roll against the poison, their faculty score increases. That way the score will increase rapidly at first, but then level off.
