Pictures not showing up?

Hey there, I uploaded pictures a few days ago for a couple of locations that didn't have pictures and they still haven't shown up on the map, so I just wanted to make sure everything's working and I didn't do something wrong.

You're not alone, I'm in the same boat! My red marker still hasn't turned green after a couple days. But that's how it worked last year, too. I just assumed that the status was that of the start of the competition. I verified that my pictures were uploaded to commons with the right category, so I'm not worried about that, just curious about the intended behavior.

Thanks, I'm just glad it's not just me! Although I would like to avoid traveling to get a bunch of pictures of places that already have pictures which just haven't posted.

FWIW, my experience hitting those red markers is that there was very little competition. Green markers aren't necessarily "done" either, you could easily take a better picture and even win, if you're into that sort of thing. One thing I've wish for is yellow markers for when there aren't any photos from this year, so every year is a new scavenger hunt.

The UK has started using Monumental for 2022's competition. From what I can tell, Monumental uploads the images to Commons but doesn't add them to the corresponding Wikidata items, so the markers stay red. It looks like adding images to Wikidata items is a manual step (unless I have misunderstood). If it could be automated so that in cases where there is no image at all one uploaded through the competition is added by a bot or as part of Monumental that would be a very useful step.
