Not sure if the project still works after the google API changes, I based one of my projects off this and it was working up until a few months ago. It keeps coming up with the "This page can't load Google Maps correctly.", "For development purposes only" issues even though the API key has been added.
Please let me know if you manage to find a fix for this, thanks.

I had the same problem but it was because I didn't have the Maps Javascript API enabled in my Google Cloud Platform Console.
