the GRSS and DS logos on this page have grey boxes on dark background:

This requires being supplied with either a png that has transparency in those locations or an SVG.

I was wrong this is driven by the Jupyterbook stylesheet, the PNGs are correctly made.
The css can be overwritten here, but we need to know how the style sheet background color is referenced.
