The link to the original dataset (http://esapubs.org/archive/ecol/E090/118/) is broken, and resolves the the archives page (https://esapubs.org/archive/). While changing the link from http to https fixes the issue, proper reference is appreciated to model good data practices.

Thanks for the report @kekoziar!
I updated the link but I'm not sure I understand what you meant with:

While changing the link from http to https fixes the issue, proper reference is appreciated to model good data practices.

Is there another change you'd like to see here?

This is part of an ongoing issue with ESA repeatedly breaking it's archival links. I recommend switching to the FigShare version, which has some issues, but will remain stable: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.c.3301073

There should be two references listed under "citation" in the "Portal Project Teaching Dataset" box: the original dataset and the teaching dataset. Perhaps even change "Citation" to "References." This reinforces and models that it's not enough to say, "cite my work;" we need to provide complete citations when we use or refer to the works of others, not just a link. When a complete citation is provided, there is enough information so someone can find that resource, even if it doesn't include a persistent identifier.

Here is a citation for the original dataset:

Ernest, S. K. Morgan; Valone, Thomas J.; Brown, James H. (2009). Data Paper for: Long-term monitoring and experimental manipulation of a Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem near Portal, Arizona, USA. Ecological Archives, E090-118-D1.
