left click does not clear the selection when mouse left is the selection action and "Clear selection on copy" is disabled

Expected Behavior

I use left mouse to select and have "Copy on select" enabled. However, it would be nice to see what I selected after the fact, so I tried disabling "Clear selection on copy"..

I expect that when I do any kind of selection action (left-click or left-drag) it should clear any existing selection.

Actual Behavior

Left-drag does clear the selection and start a new one.

Left-click does not clear the selection.

Steps to reproduce

1. Disable "Clear selection on copy"
2. Set mouse left click as select hotkey
3. Select some text
4. Click anywhere in the view
