Check or remove multiprocessing

The infrastructure for multiprocessing has not been updated alongside refactoring in #152. Ideally this can be checked and corrected, especially given how long the cpm process takes, and the prospect of scaling this up for a future run beyond three variables. But if that isn't possible, this should be removed to avoid confusion in future.
