I just tried to replace my sensorbox v1 with sensorbox v2.

I got orange LED on sensorbox and "Error no serial" on SmartEVSE. I did not upgrade the SmartEVSE firmware yet (it is old with not SOLAR mode). Is it necessary to upgrade SmarEVSE firmware before using sensorbox v2?

Yes, but Sensorbox 1 won't work with the new firmware.

Thank you @bobosch.
@mstegen It would be nice if this made clear in the documentation. If it is written somewhere, then I missed it.
I thought I could keep Sensorbox 1 as a spare, but probably not worth it if I need to downgrade firmware first.

Thanks for your suggestion.
You can reprogram the Sensorbox 1 firmware to the version that is available on github. This version does work with both the old and new protocol of the SmartEVSE. This does require a pickit from microchip though..
You can also send the Sensorbox 1 back to me, then i'll reprogam it for you.

In order to use the Sensobox 2 with the SmartEVSE v2, you will need at least software version 2.10 of the SmartEVSE firmware.

@mstegen The compatibility between v1 and v2 is not important to me, I was just not aware that they were not compatible.
Thank you for your offer of upgrading Sensorbox 1, but I'm not sure it is worth the postage, hopefully I will never need a spare.
But please see SmartEVSE/SmartEVSE-2#50. I would like to be able to upgrade SmartEVSE firmware myself, preferably without having to install Wine.
