The Binding concept of UI5 provides the concept of suspending bindings to not longer request updates for these bindings.

See methods suspend, resume and isSuspended.
https://github.com/SAP/openui5/blob/master/src/sap.ui.core/src/sap/ui/model/Binding.js

The FHIR-specific bindings should also support this concept by checking the state (isSuspended)of the binding in the checkUpdate methods.
