Adding Telemetry

In order to focus our efforts on features that actually bring value to our users we should have some telemetry to understand how the plugin is being used. However since telemetry is a sensitive topic as it raises concerns regarding privacy, we need to be careful here. If we spot any resistence we should drop it so not to lose adoption.

Telemetry should be opt-in and disabled by default and must be fully transparent regarding data collected.

Describe the solution you'd like

• Instrument the code to collect telemetry data, ideally avoiding third-party software
• All collected data is clearly described in the README.md (or other)
• Raw data is anonymized and ideally made public.
• Proper procedures and documentation in place to handle data

Describe alternatives you've considered

• we get feedback from users through other means.
