Docs version switcher loses focus on slow selection

Trying to change versions in the readthedocs page can be frustrating if my mouse doesn't move fast enough...

Not a big deal but annoying. Opening issue to track it but will add to #846 and close.

Steps to Reproduce

Go to https://nwb-guide.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ and try to change versions somewhat slowly

The scipy and pandas docs which use the same pydata theme version switcher do not seem to have the same issue, but they also do not expand the dropdown on hover. Only the pydantic docs do that, which uses a different system.
