Variable extents fail to initialize on new variable #3637

To reproduce:

Import the WRF-Chem file as WRF-ARW at /glade/campaign/cisl/vast/vapor/Bugs/3637
Create and enable a new Volume renderer
Change the variable to P to get the error shown below
In the Geometry tab, adjust the minimum and maximum Z slider knobs to acquire valid extents

Quick low hanging fruit might be to add "Try adjusting renderer region in the Geometry Tab" to the warning.
