Ok, this is probably a stupid question but:

I am connected to 10.5.5.9 as 10.5.5.100 as DHCP stabely, bit I cannot ping the Gopro AP?

How come?

From my testing the camera does not reply to pings, to determine if camera is online I just make a status request. Some network devices are setup so that they don't reply to pings.
