Odd view style issue

I attempted to use the plugin with our custom newspaper content types and the display dropped twig code into the display:

After some looking over the settings I noticed the "remove tags from rendered output" option which drops the twig debug tags (see the red square in the screenshot below):

My guess is that this config option wasn't intended for that purpose specifically. It feels more like a work-around than the way it should work. No other styles expose twig debug code like that.
