Multilingual typing

I am trying to get predictions, glide typing and autocorrect working for multiple languages. However it seems to stick to only one? I am writing in German and English frequently.
So far I only could get a manual keyboard switch working, which is not optimal, as the layout switches as well (QWERTZ/QWERTY). Any option I am missing?

Is the following text understandable?

Multilingual typing: Enable in Languages & Layouts, select the main lanugage and tap the + button next to multilingual typing to add a language. Note that the selection is limited to languages with the same script as the main language, and to languages that have a dictionary (see above for how to add).

Ah, got it. Maybe add, that you need to click on the name or text of your main language (e.g. "Deutsch (Deutschland)"), then a popup shows. Also works with the system language enabled.
Toggling the switch next to the language only activates the layout & language as a choice, not multilanguage typing

And some additional info: You need to install the dictionaries for the languages you want to use. Although English and German are otherwise available.
