Hi

I am trying to run my first recipe (existing sample one) like below
esmvaltool run --config_file=.esmvaltool/config-a2021.yml ESMValTool/esmvaltool/recipes/examples/recipe_python.yml

and it gave the error message that failed with return code 1. The logfile says TypeError: an integer is required

Do you know why this is happening?

hi @AnushaNTNU could you please post the full Traceback so we can understand what the problem is? Also, looking at your command - you may want to run it with --config_file=~/.esmvaltool/config-a2021.yml unless you have an actual .esmvaltool/config-a2021.yml in the dir where you are running

Hi @AnushaNTNU - I am unable to reproduce the issue with esmvaltool=2.5.0 but it could be that the environment that you have esmvaltool installed in is getting a bit too old, could you please confirm this for me:

• you've not changed the examples/diagnostic.py nor the recipe_python.yml in any way, and if so, please attach the output of these commands below:

conda list matplotlib
conda list cartopy
conda list iris

I havent changed any. But I dont see diagnostic.py inside examples

This issue is solved. I got help from the HPC support team. It was related to a bug in installed shapely package. Re installed to esmvaltool 2.6 and the issue is solved. You can close the ticket. Thanks @valeriupredoi

Thanks! I'll have a look at my dependencies and cross-check; your install path says 2.5.0 - you sure it's 2.6.0? If you run esmvaltool version what do you get?

OK I have checked and indeed, I have the same dependencies in my environment myself, and indeed for esmvaltool=2.6.0. I still can't reproduce the issue you are seeing so my guess is that the people that did the central installation of esmvaltool have done something wrong. To start with, they should nicely rename the install path/module name to /conda/esmvaltool/2.6.0 - if they mixed environments or paths in any way, then the only way to find that out is at their end. I suggest you get in touch with them and point them to your issue, if they have any questions, you can put me in touch with them and I'd be happy to assist 🍺
